Just Like New, Yah…

My car is back. Well, looks like new, but I was hoping through insurance I could get myself new body kit, but then I thought ahhh insurance company will just add it on top of my annual fee anyway so I might as well be happy with getting it back just like what it was.

Well, it was a good lesson for me, don’t do stupid careless driving.

Accident

Yep, my first ever car accident in Taiwan. It was purely my fault, just careless driving. I guess I was lucky that it wasn’t some sort of gangster or mobster that I ran into, so it was pretty much cleared out after filing a police report, and I asked my insurance to take care of it on Monday.

I am glad I had insurance, but at the same time, I was thinking of upgrading the front and rear bar of my CRV to Modulo at the end of the year. I guess that will not happen now.

Happy New Year 2010

Welcome 2010.

Like every other New Year, I took the Taipei 101 firework. This time from my car. It was awful. I couldn’t even get out of my car to set up my tripod. The shots I took were so shit I am too embarassed to show.

Then I started my 2010 spending almost two hours driving home from the celebration area. The same distance normally would take only fifteen minutes if I had walked. Plus some dick scrached my car. Fuck.

Happy 2010.

I Drove Through 逢甲夜市

I drove down to to Taichung (台中) to attend my cousin’s wedding. Since it was such a long drive my wife decided to stay the weekend over there.

GPS worked well, it took me from Taipei to Taichung without much of a problem.

However, GPS doesn’t seem to know 逢甲夜市. On my way leaving from the wedding venue to the hotel, GPS too me right through the one of the crowded streets of Taichung City.

Luckily, it was only 3:30 in the afternoon. All the stores and food stands only just started preparing, but it was already very crowded, and people were starting moving in by the seconds. At one point, my car was virtually stuck in the middle of the nightmarket. People were staring at me and probably thinking why the heck would a car come driving in here?

The conclusion is, GPS knows roads, but it does not know places.

Retarded GPS

Retarded GPS look me to the wrong direction and guided me to this tiny major tiny tiny road with cars parked on both sides. I ended up scratching the side panel.

The scratch isn’t anything seriously, but there is a slight mark probably 10cm long.

Maybe I should get a new GPS.

New Showroom

Not from our company, but from a prestigous car maker.

Bentley will open its first showroom in Taiwan, right next to our company! Not too sure why I am so excited, but it is not often when you see such expensive vechicles on the road, especially when they opened a showroom right next to where I work.

It seems poor economy doesn’t quite affect the riches I guess. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley all have showroom in Neihu Technology Park now, what is to come next?

A Very Big Gift!

A while back I wrote this post…

Should I or Shouldn’t I?

Almost six months later, now I am driving one.

When I first stepped into the driver’s seat, I was lost for words. I couldn’t not believe I just purchase my first, my very own car, a Honda CRV 2.4. Of course my wife contributed a bit, but the feeling is just fantastic.

Although I am happy, but not fully. Mum and dad doesn’t like the idea of buying a car at this time. I cannot say they are wrong. Parking rental, high petrol prices, insurance, service, and so on. These are like hidden costs that will just eat up my bank balance just as quickly as the 2.4 litre engine that eats up the petrol.

Mum, dad, I apologize. Perhaps my decision on purchasing a car was a selfish one, but I think it is well spent. Although a little out of my budget, but it does bring a lot more convenience to my life.

Please don’t be mad! I will pick up guys up from the airport when you guys come back in October!

NTD 5,000,000 Garbage Truck?

A recent news involving a BMW 750i experiencing engine shutting down 3 to 4 times over the period of one year, and the owner got so upset he printed the following texts “五百萬 垃圾車 大笨蛋”, which translates to “A 5 million dollar garbage truck” on the bonnet of the car.

NTD 5,000,000 is around USD 163,543.00.

Apparently the owner returned this car to the BMW dealer playing typical garbage collecting music, demanding for an explanation.

BMW explained it wasn’t the cars fault too. Mmmm… if my next car is to choose between a BMW or a Merc, I think the choice is pretty obvious.

Should I or Shouldn’t I?

Buy a car?

Recently I have been contemplating on buying a car. I understand it is expensive and parking fee is expensive and maintaining it is also expensive, but sometimes it can make life a lot easier if I had one.

The ideal car I have in my mind at the moment is the new Honda CRV. Slightly expensive, but at least it gets me around places and it has a lot of room.

Next up is probably the Volkswagen GTi.

VW Gold GTi
VW Glf GTi

The pros and cons between these two are quite obvious. Both are fantastic cars, and people will probably tell me to go for the Golf GTi, and I would too, but the price of a GTi is a bit too deep. At NTD 1.2 mil. it’s not cheap. However, CRV is around NTD 0.97 mil. which is not that cheap either. On the other hand, the CRV is big, comfortable and the interior is much more luxury too. Except its big and slow but who needs a fast car in Taipei anyway?

See, this is the problem I have. If there is something I want really, I just cannot just make my mind on it. I can think, decide and compare, and by the time I actually do make the move, that would like after one year later.

Tough choice. At this time I wish I was rich so I could have just brought anything without thinking.
