Welcome Back, Mum!

I am so happy mum is back.

What I am not so happy is my weight.

My weight was steady and dropping at 67.5kg the day when mum arrived.

The next day it went up to 69.

I need to control my craving from mum’s home cooked meals.

So Quiet

Mum and dad went back to Melbourne this afternoon. It was kind of weird coming home today but did not see them around. Maybe I am used to the noise they make, used to listening to them arguing over nothing. Perhaps, I am just used to have them staying with us.

Suddenly, I miss them both. I wish they can come back again soon.

The funny thing is, in merely a week time, I will be flying back to see them too! This time back to Melbourne is going to be fantastic, and I am sure my wife will love it too! I cannot wait!

Happy New Year 2009!

This year again ended at a low. Poor economy, switched to a new job function at work, and no bonus.

Then again, looking at the brighter side, I got married, I am still healthy, and happy.

The whole family, including my wife, Joe and Yoshimi checked out the new year countdown firework at Taipei 101. For the fourth consecutive year, I ended the year viewing at the tallest building in the world covered in firework. Regrettably to say, this year’s firework was a disappointment. It was longer, but far less spectacular. However, I had this rare moment to spend the new year with the whole family, plus new family members, so I have nothing to complaint.

Happy New Year 2009 everyone. See you here again at the 2010 countdown.

Happy New Year 2009!

Family Gathering!

Joe arrived this evening from Japan, together with Yoshimi and my little nephew, Brendan. I haven’t seen Joe in a while. Actually, I did meet him really briefly when I went to Sydney last year, but that was it.

Joe and Yoshimi haven’t changed changed much, but little Brendan has really grown! He is so playful and adorable, but noisy too. Then again, kids are all the same, right?

I like the feeling when the whole family gathers, and every time the whole family meets up the number of members seems to grow as well. Maybe next time I will bring a baby boy or a baby girl too.

I look forward to the next three weeks! It will be awesome!

Wedding Cakes (喜餅)

I handed them out today, the wedding cakes, plus the invitations. I had waited for this for a long time, and finally I got it out of the way.

It felt weird, a lot of the people did not know I was getting married. A lot of people did not know my wife was someone they knew. I had many questions thrown at me. I didn’t know what to answer, but it was fun.

Another three weeks before the actual wedding day. I can’t wait!

Oh yah, mum and dad also arrived today! It is always good to see them again!

Poor Old Man

My old man is hospitalized due to 膽結石, and an operation is performed today to remove the 膽囊 and the stones remained inside.

Apparently the main cause of 膽結石 is due to fatty food. Yes, fat food, which my dad loves. The symptom gets worse with age, and just happened that over the last few days, the 膽囊 just gave up completely.

I went to visit my old man at the hospital today. He was in a coma for most of the day due to the anesthetic. After waking up his spirit looked high. He was a little upset when he learned that he might not be able to eat all the foods he loves, but then again, what’s more important, the food, or his health? The choice then seemed more simple and obvious.

Poor old man. Just a few days ago he was happy chewing on 鹽酥雞, looks like he needs to start learning to chew on carrot and celery now.

Health, Family and Friends

Peter, Lawrence and myself went to visit Kelly at the hospital after work.

It was a tiny room, shared with another patient which the two beds were divided only by a piece of blue cloth hanging from the ceiling. There was a little bedside table, covered with flowers from friends, and colleagues. Her parents, and sister were also there accompanying her.

Kelly looked tired, a little pale, but her spirit seemed high.

We talked briefly, and she seemed to feel a lot of pain every time she worked her stomach, such as when she started to laugh, or cough.

Her parents said even though the operation was not common, but the wound was not small. I mean, having a fifteen centimeter long tumor removed, it could not have been a small operation. Thank God the tumor turned out benign, and not malignant. It was a real relief, especially for her parents, as they both looked exhausted, probably from a lack of sleep and constantly worrying what could have been, something, a lot worse.

After the visit, it is just so difficult not to remind ourselves again that we should really take better care of our own health. Also, the support, strength and courage your family and friends can provide in order to carry you through this difficult time, is priceless.

We all look forward to see Kelly back in office soon!

My Dysfunctional Family

Well, not the entire family, just my dad anyway.

I accompanied my mum to look for a new home, so at least next time when both of my folks, or when my brother comes back, they can have a permanent place to stay instead of crashing at a friend’s or relatives house.

We did find a great place. A less than two years old classy apartment. It was near my workplace and the location was great for shopping or dining. It was also in fantastic neighborhood.

Not to mention the price was good too.

Everything seemed to have worked out so well, and it was just a matter of signing the papers, that was when my dad stepped in.

“I only want a place with two bathrooms”.

Well, the place we found only had one. However, dad insisted on having two. I don’t even see the point of having two bathrooms. Even if you want one, it would be very difficult to find. Yet, the price is likely to be way over our budget.

I tried to convince dad again, however, the result was the same.

We did find one with two bathrooms. However, it was also 400k more.

Dad, I know you are loaded, but I don’t think you want to pay 400k for an additional set of toilet seat and a tub.

At the end of the day, yes, my dysfunctional dad ruined it all. No new home.

God, please help my dad…
