What a Classic Match

I cannot be bothered writing because I am amazed in awe, so I will post someone elses blog first. This blog outlines everything I have to say.

Chicago downs Boston in another overtime classic
By Kelly Dwyer

Chicago 128, Boston 127 (3OT), series tied 3-3

I don’t know how I’m supposed to go back to watching normal basketball after this.

I’ve been obsessing over this game for years. I’ve been poring over every minute of playoff action my entire life. I’ve made a point to keep up on everything that happened before my time. I’ve seen fire, and I’ve seen rain. I have never seen a series like this, and we still have a game to go.

Apologies for burying the lede, but the Chicago Bulls defeated the Boston Celtics in a triple overtime classic that has left me trading text messages with shaky hands, and needing to take a shower after I finish this post. I mean that. The game was all you could ask for from the very beginning, with dozens of phenomenal plays and soul-killing mistakes on either end. This was an absolute dogfight between two teams that appear to want nothing more than to line up for a jump ball to start yet another overtime.

And then another overtime, after that.

Ray Allen had 51 points, and as brilliant as he was, it felt like part of the script. John Salmons, who was plying his trade in front of 9,000-strong in Sacramento this time three months ago, dropped 35 and helped keep Paul Pierce (22 points before fouling out) from dominating. Joakim Noah played a frenetic brand of winning basketball for the first three quarters of the game, needlessly sat on the bench for a long spell, didn’t mope, and came back to seal the game with a deciding steal and dunk that sent Pierce to the bench with his sixth foul.

Or, wait, was Derrick Rose’s last-second block the thing that sealed it? Or Rose’s (intended?) miss of his second free throw that forced a timeout-barren Celtic squad to cover the waterfront with only 3.2 seconds left in triple overtime, before missing a last-second heave? Or was it Brad Miller’s three-pointer and lay-up to bring the Bulls back after they seemed to have nothing left with a minute to go in regulation?

Or Ray Allen’s five points from a combined 45 feet away on two shots at the end of double overtime? Or was it Vinny Del Negro’s insistence on refusing to foul teams that are down three with no timeouts, even though that same play has come back to bite him on the ass all series?

Or was it Glen Davis, calmly nailing jumpers to finish the first overtime? Or was it Davis, fouling Brad Miller needlessly with 38 seconds to go in the third overtime, sending him to sulk on the bench with his sixth foul?

Or was it the greatest game, of the greatest series you’ve ever seen in your entire life?

I’ll leave that up to you. For now, a cold shower seems the best answer.

Double Alley-Oop

This is cool.

Some dudes made some pretty hilarious comment at Youtube…

How long before LeBron is doing double alley-oops to himself?

Pretty nasty. How come the crowd doesn’t react at all? Is this a regular thing for them? Reminds me of NBA Street and NBA Jam.

i was getting into that girls conversation..

Rafael the Great

Rafael Nadel finally defeated Roger Federer at the Wimbledon. After two consecutive losses at the Finals over the last two years, Nadel finally dethroned Federer and prevented him a six Wimbeldon crown in a row, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7.

It was an epic, absolutely thrilling final.

With these two great players on the tour is also the reason why tennis is not dead yet.

Dominated

Rafael Nadal absolutely killed Roger Federer yesterday at the French Open Final. It was the most dominating performance in a long time and it was certainly something most people did not expect.

6-1, 6-3, 6-0

I cannot even really the last time Roger lost in three straight sets, not to mention he lost 6-0.

Did he play on wheelchairs? From the scoreline, he probably played using his left hand.

Then again, maybe it is time for Roger to admit that Rafael is the better player on clay and maybe Rafael might give him a chance the next time they meet.

Wimbledon is also coming at the end of this month. Obviously wish Nadal the best of luck in Wimbledon as Federer has failed to use his in Roland Garros.

Just How Often Do You Get This?

To have more than 55,000 people cheering for you, giving you a stand ovation.

Well, the person is Wang Chien-Ming.

This was the game between Yankees and Red Sox. Wang did a great job and won the game against the best team in the league (at the time anyway), and the photo was taken when Wang left the game for good.

Wang Receiving Standing Ovation

I love this photo because it clearly shows how much appreciation and support the crowd shows. To be on the biggest stage, and bring out the sort of performance like Wang does each and every time he steps on to the pitch, is just remarkable.

Making Headlines

Not me, not BenQ (well, not today anyway), but a Taiwan sporting icon.

When you get writers saying things like…

Seattle struggled to do anything with Wang’s heavy sinker, one of the best pitches in the majors.

You should know that Wang Chien-Ming is definitely something.

It is always nice to see Wang making headlines. He does all Taiwanese proud.

4-0 Sweep

Yep, the Bulls did just that. They swept the Heats 4-0 and move past the first round of 2007 NBA Playoffs.

I always knew Chicago is a decent team, but they are more than decent this year. They are fast, smart and organized, with very good ball movements. I hope they go far into the playoffs this year.

I hope Mavericks lose too, stupid arrogant overrated team. Go the Warriors.
